Generating aerosols from diamond powder using the Aero PA100 powder aerosoliser
The Naneum Aero PA100 powder aerosoliser uses a vibrating jet method to generate aerosols from a powdered material. This is a much gentler method than is used in other similar instruments, and one of the main advantages is the very small amount of material required. The PA100 has been used to generate aerosol from a small sample of powdered diamond (figure 9.1) manufactured by a European diamond supplier.

Diamond powders are used in a variety of industrial applications, and there exists a requirement to be able to generate aerosol from the powdered material. Figure 9.2 shows a size distribution of aerosol particles generated using the PA100 from a sample of diamond powder. The outlet of the PA100 was connected to an SMPS to measure the particle size distribution. Only 300mg of material was consumed during the measurement process.
