Classifier Nano-ID™ PMC500

The Nano-ID Particle Mobility Classifier model PMC500 sets a new standard in versatility and performance for metrology, calibration, and general aerosol science and research applications. The instrument allows monodisperse particle size distributions to be generated anywhere; the need for dedicated aboratory space and the relative complexity associated with this activity have been eliminated. The PMC500 satisfies the long-standing need for a research-grade instrument that can be easily moved or shared within any environment, is simple to integrate into a test set-up and requires no special operator training.

APPLICATIONS

  • Particle counter and instrument calibration
  • Filter and media testing
  • Materials research
  • Health/toxicology studies

New Electrostatic Classifier Design

The PMC500 uses a unique parallel-plate geometry classifier that enables its compact size and novel form-factor. The principle of operation is electrical mobility; a monodisperse distribution is created from a polydisperse aerosol traveling through an electric field. Simply stated, the resulting particle distribution peak is a function of the path length within the classifier and the applied electric field. The width of the distribution is the ratio between the sample aerosol flow rate and an internal sheath flow.

FEATURES

Plug and Play Operation
The functional approach of the PMC500 is different than that of traditional metrology instruments; the product is designed to be used directly as shipped – no assembly or special configuration is required. The PMC500 is ready to begin classifying aerosol particles in a matter of minutes. Set-up is as simple as applying power and connecting the input and output sample lines.

Simple to Operate
All of the user-selectable variables are configured through the instrument’s touch screen display. The user has only two primary parameters to configure prior to operation; the required particle size (peak of the output distribution) and the aerosol sample flow rate. The instrument automatically maintains the optimal ratio between the sample and sheath flows to guarantee a high resolution, monodisperse particle size distribution is produced.

On-Board Computer
The PMC500 incorporates a built-in Windows® operating system that includes a suite of Microsoft® software products. The on-board computing power of the instrument is a convenient tool for immediate data analysis and report generation. The instrument allows for a standard keyboard or mouse to be connected for data entry and screen navigation. Data can be saved utilizing a secondary USB port.

Optional Particle Charger
The C2000 Unipolar Corona Charger is a companion product used with the PMC500 for applications where a known particle charge is required. The unit replaces convention low-level radioactive sources and all of the associated handling and safety requirements. When activated, particles are surrounded by a highly concentrated field of positively charged ions. Within a few seconds particles become optimally conditioned and are ready to be generated for the application of interest.
