Diluter ULP100

The ULP100 Aerosol Diluter enables accurate measurements of high concentration aerosols samples. Depending on the flow rate chosen, it provides a 1 to1,000 times continuously adjustable dilution range. The unit is self-contained, simple to install, and allows in-situ dilution adjustments. The ULP100 can be used as a general accessory for most commercially available optical particle counters. It is particularly useful in applications requiring the use of high resolution aerosol spectrometers to measure Particle Size Distributions (PSD), such as Particle Measuring Systems NPS500.

FEATURES

Real-Time Adjustable Dilution Ratio
A simple front panel control allows the dilution ratio to be continuously adjusted from 1 to 1,000 without any physical changes to the unit or combining multiple diluters in tandem. This feature takes the guesswork out of sampling completely unknown or partially characterized aerosols. Simply plumb the ULP100 upstream of the particle characterization instrument and adjust in-situ until the proper particle concentration is generated. This approach speeds the time to measurement results, eliminates particle counter error caused by coincidence loss. and minimizes downstream instrument contamination and cleaning.

High Accuracy Particle Size Distribution Measurements
A common problem associated with aerosol dilution schemes is particle transport loss that results from turbulence and sedimentation in the mixing region. When this occurs, the input aerosol distribution is altered and the final measurement accuracy is compromised. The ULP 100 solves this problem with the following features.

Ultra-Low Pressure Drop
The unique flow geometry of the ULP100 produces an ultra-low pressure drop in the mixing region. This design approach ensures virtually no degradation of the input aerosol PSD. The output size distribution after dilution therefore accurately reflects the input and provides the highest possible downstream measurement precision.

Long-Term Dilution Stability
Most commercially available products use well over 90% of the incoming aerosol flow as the actual dilution stream after an internal filtration step. The drawback to this approach is that the dilution ratio will be reduced over time as flow restrictions develop. This is caused by contamination and can only be remedied by disassembling the diluter and cleaning it.

Active Flow Control System
The ULP100 provides superior long-term output size distribution stability through the use of an active flow control system. Once the required dilution is set it will remain constant as the unit automatically maintains the proper ratio between the sample and dilution flow streams independent of the particle concentration in the aerosol sample.

The diluter can be used in many areas such as:

•    Automotive Industry
•    Nanoparticle Production (e.g. CVD)
•    Nanoparticle Conditioning
•    Instrument calibration and filter testing
