The Directors and founding shareholders of Naneum are Dr Boris Gorbunov, David Barclay and Dr Robert Muir.

Dr Boris Gorbunov is based at The University of Kent and has more than 25 years experience as a leading scientist in condensation technology, nanoparticle separation/characterisation/generation and instrument development. He is an internationally renowned expert in nucleation/condensation technology with more than 100 technical R&D publications and patents.

He has substantial managerial experience working as a team leader on various R&D projects in the nanoparticle characterisation field. Dr Gorbunov has been involved as a leader (of a project or a workpackage) in many national and international projects including recent DTI (2000 and 2004), European Commission (Evaluation of the Biosafety of Lead Substitutes in the Manufacture of Unleaded Crystal Glass -1997; Siliceram-2004), The Royal Society UK (1996), Nerc (1998) and Nesta (1999) initiatives.  

Dr Gorbunov has also been involved in a number of projects related to condensation/nucleation technology. In particular, recent DTI (2000 and 2004) projects where a unique extremely sensitive condensation technology has been developed to detect single organic molecules of the size less than 1 nm in the air.

David Barclay worked for Shell Oil Products companies in leadership positions throughout the world. He has a wealth of experience managing and growing businesses in challenging environments.  Amongst his roles were: Managing Director of Shell Uruguay, Chairman of Forestal Oriental (forestry), General Manager of Shell Oils (lubricants in UK), Global Coordinator of Shell Aviation, Chairman of Shell Companies in Indonesia, Chairman and Chief Executive of Shell Companies in Chile.  For two years David was Portfolio Projects Manager in Shell Europe where he gained extensive hands on experience developing and successfully implementing acquisition and divestment strategies.  David is a founder member of Innospan, a consultancy specialising in M&A work, the commercialisation of high tech opportunities and IT stragegy.

Robert (Bob) Muir has over 20 years business experience and has held leadership positions in start-up and blue chip companies. He has direct experience of new business development in a number of industries. Most recently, as Vice President for New Business in Infineum (a global ExxonMobil/Shell chemical additives joint venture), he led a team which developed a portfolio of opportunities with revenues greater than US$1billion.  In other roles Bob has implemented acquisitions in a number of countries including UK, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

Bob has a background in sales and marketing in the Chemicals and Oil Industries. Amongst others he has held positions as: MD Blacksmith Chemicals (oil field chemicals), Director SaveEnergy (energy conservation), Director Nickerson Seeds, MD Epro Agrochemicals, Director Shell Austria and Vice President Infineum International.  

Bob has a PhD in physical chemistry from Aberdeen University.
